Commemorative Paving Bricks
Imagine walking along a winding path and feeling the excitement of discovering new and different kinds of flowers, trees and shrubs. Learn from a walking guide about the many specimens and varieties that enrich your way. Listen to the song of a cardinal calling to her mate. What you have just envisioned is a reality at South Holland Botanic Garden in Hollandale Park. The garden is a truly magnificent park featuring these special places.
Native Wildflower Garden
This garden features native Illinois wildflowers and prairie grasses such as purple coneflowers, black-eyed Susans and columbines. Some of these attract cardinals, hummingbirds and butterflies. Many of these wildflowers were the colorful accents to the rich native prairies that once covered the plains of Illinois.
English Garden
For a touch of old-world romance, stroll through the English Garden. This is a formal garden of beautiful flowerbeds that will bloom from early spring through autumn with a profusion of vibrant colors. It is a place of secluded charm.
Urban Forest
The Urban Forest of Native Trees contains dozens of specimen trees and shrubs, many native to Illinois. Examples of these include scarlet oaks, white birches and sugar maples. Many trees will burn with color in the autumn. The forest brings natural elements and wildlife habitats into urban surroundings.
Enabling Garden
An Enabling Garden is a place where people of all ages and abilities can participate in gardening. The Enabling Garden eliminates physical barriers to the enjoyable experience of gardening. It is a place suitable for those who may have a temporary or permanent physical disability, use a wheelchair, or find traditional gardening physically challenging. A goal of the Enabling Garden is to educate and assist such people interested in gardening.
