CPR Classes
The South Holland Fire Department offers CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) classes to the public. We train approximately 300 citizens each year. Citizens that are trained in CPR make a difference every day by the recognition of life threatening conditions, prompt calling of 911, and administering life-saving techniques. This training has helped keep many patients alive until the ambulance arrives on the scene.
The South Holland Fire Department teaches three types of CPR classes:
- Heart Saver/AED/First Aid
- Health Care Provider
- Hands Only CPR/AED/First-Aid
The Heart Saver/AED/First Aid Course is $70 and includes an AHA Study Book and in depth first aid training.
The Heart Saver/AED/First Aid Course taught by the South Holland Fire Department follows the guidelines for CPR and foreign body airway obstruction maneuvers outlined by the American Heart Association. The course consists of a lecture and a practical. The lecture will include background information about heart disease, risk factors, and heart and lung anatomy. One-rescuer CPR and foreign body airway obstruction maneuvers will be demonstrated in the practical portion of the class. The lecture and practical will cover adults and children.
The Health Care Provider Course is $50 and includes an AHA Study Book.
The Health Care Provider Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. This course is intended for health care providers such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician’s assistants, residents or fellows, or medical or nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, police officers, and other allied health personnel.
The Hands Only CPR/AED/First-Aid Course is $25.
Hands only CPR and AED is proven to save lives. CPR through chest compressions only and immediate application of AED can be taught to all audiences. STOP the Bleed is focused on applying bandages and pressure to stop severe bleeding and save lives. Class participants will be issued a certificate of completion. This class is two (2) hours in length.
