The STUDENT POLICE ACADEMY in its inaugural season, is a program available to all students currently enrolled in Thornwood High School, or of high school age and a South Holland resident. According to Officer Kirk Kremski, “The academy is designed to introduce participants to the field of law enforcement and provides an opportunity for youth and police officers to connect”. Students attend a mock police academy involving lectures, role-playing, topical demonstrations, and team building exercises. The academy is designed to highlight key principles of communication, teamwork, leadership, and conflict resolution.
Students will receive training in the areas of:
- Patrol Basics
- Police Interaction
- Investigations
- SWAT Team
- Basic Criminal Law
- Use of Force Simulator
