The Village of South Holland would like to remind residents of the following ordinances and guidelines that apply during the winter season.
Thank you for helping keep our village safe and clean this winter season. Drive safely and stay warm!
Removing Snow from Driveways and Sidewalks:
When clearing snow from your driveways and sidewalks, please do not place snow in the street. Placing snow to the right of your driveway will minimize the amount that may get plowed back into your driveway.
Please also clear snow from an area of at least 3 feet around fire hydrants.
Snow Ordinance and Street Parking:
The Village’s snow ordinance calls for the removal of automobiles from local streets after a snowfall of two inches or more. Residents are asked to cooperate so that plowing may be completed without hindrance. The Police Department will once again tow vehicles which are in violation of this ordinance at the owner’s expense.
Toters:
Yard Waste toters may be used for household trash from now until March 31.
Recycling toters are for recyclable materials only. Please do not place household trash in the recycling toter, remember to separate your recycling from the regular household garbage.
Village ordinance prohibits household garbage and waste toters to be stored in front of a residence. The stored toters must be placed behind the building line of the property and should not be placed in an area where odors may cause a nuisance for neighbors. All waste receptacles should be placed in an area least likely to be a nuisance.
Also, Village ordinance states that no garbage cans or toters can be placed at the street or alley before 4:00pm the day before scheduled garbage pickup, and empty receptacles must be returned to their storage area by 8:00pm on garbage pickup day.
The Public Works Department also advises that there will be no branch pickups until April.
