Red Cross Provides Flood Clean-up Assistance

On Friday, July 29, four to six inches of rain flooded the streets of the Village of South Holland. Fortunately, there was no loss of life. However, for some residents, the aftermath of the flash flood resulted in property damage, and now clean up begins.
To aid in this effort, the American Red Cross has donated 170 clean up kits, which are currently being distributed at the Department of Public Works, 16226 Wausau Avenue (building behind South Holland’s Village Hall). Republic Services has donated three 30-yard dumpsters for the village’s use in discarding water damaged items from residents’ homes. Public Works has special crews assigned to pick up flood damaged items from the curb (after normal garbage day).
Additionally, the American Red Cross has assigned a Disaster Assessment Team to visit the homes of residents who experienced basement flooding.
The Village of South Holland has a packet of information available, which includes the following:
- A list of licensed plumbers
- Sewer back-up prevention program:
- Village will pay 50 percent of the cost, up to $5,000
- Village will pay the contractor directly so homeowner does not have to be reimbursed later
- Flood Rebate Programs
