The final E-Waste Collection event of 2017 is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 28 in the rear parking lot of the South Holland Public Library.

This is a service available to South Holland residents only.

Electronic waste, or “e-waste”, is known as old electronic devices that are broken, outdated, discarded, or at the end of the useful life. This includes cell phones, laptops, desktop computers, monitors, tablets, PDAs, televisions, printers, fax machines, scanners, and many other electronic devices.

In January 2012, putting electronic waste in the trash or setting it out on the curb to be picked up with garbage became illegal in the State of Illinois. In fact, per the Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act (415 ILCS 150/95), it is illegal to throw away more than 13 electronic products.

In the Village of South Holland, our challenge has been proper disposal of unwanted televisions. Residents leave old televisions at the curb on trash day. Republic Services, our disposal service provider, cannot haul them away. Remember – it’s against the law.

To address this issue, the South Holland Public Works Department, along with the South Holland Public Library, offers community-wide electronic waste collection dates for South Holland residents.
